Steamy Kettle Sugar Bush

Maple Syrup Producer

Hosted by Chris & Bev Ellsmere

Welcome to Steamy Kettle Sugar Bush. The Ellsmere family has been making Maple Syrup since the early 1840’s, and has produced syrup on the current farm since 1913. Our sugar bush operation runs from the last week of February to mid April, creating an experience that will last a lifetime. Originally, our Sugar Bush produced maple syrup in an old time fashion way with taps and buckets and collecting sap by hand. In 2018, we changed our sap collecting process from our 1000 trees to a modern pipeline system with vacuum collecting in our collection tank in the sugar house. We still retain a few spiels and buckets to remind us of years gone by. We boil our sap with a modern stainless steel evaporator that runs on fire wood collected from our bush the old fashioned way. Walk through our sugar house to see the tanks, filter press and bottling process. Take time and walk on a self guided tour through our 25 acres of sugar bush to see how the maple syrup process begins; making your way through beautiful trails, seeing the tubing lines that lead to our sugar house. When you arrive back at the sugar house you can walk through and see the process of making pure maple syrup from tree to table, for you and your family. Bev and I will welcome you to Steamy Kettle Sugar Bush just off Horseshoe Valley Road West near Craighurst!
