Highlights of Ontario Maple Regulations |
- All maple syrup offered for sale in Ontario must be graded in accordance with Regulation 386 made under the Farm Products Grades and Sales Act.
- All maple products offered for sale must have marked on the container:
- The name of the maple product
- The amount of maple product in the container
- The grade and colour class of the maple syrup
- The name and address of the individual or company who packed the maple product.
- All maple syrup offered for sale must have been a minimum density of 66° Brix.
- All maple sugar offered for sale must not contain over 10% moisture.
- Any person, producer, packer, or consumer may request an Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Inspector to inspect a maple product.
- All maple syrup must be sold in new containers of standard sizes. Containers over 5 litres may be re-used.
- Any maple syrup advertisements that quote a price must also state the grade and volume of the syrup as prominently as the price.
- Amber colour class may be labelled Ontario Amber for farm gate sales only.
